1927 Halftone Print Kwan Yin Mercy Goddess Deity Sculpture Tafotse Temple NGM4 YMM1 John Lenzie RogersThis is an original 1927 sepia halftone print of the enormous deity Kwan Yin, goddess of Mercy. This statue was carved from a sandstone cliff, sealed with plaster and painted and guilded. The sculpture rests in the temple of Tafotse near Pinchow, Shensi, China. The figure to the left of Kwan Yin is a giant statue of Buddha. Note the men at the base of the statue, which gives an idea of how truly colossal she really is. Photography courtesy of E. L.
